Apple today (13th November 2019) unveiled an all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro - "the world’s best pro notebook" — designed for developers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, music producers and anyone who relies on a Mac to create their life’s best work. The all-new MacBook Pro features a brilliant 16-inch Retina Display, the latest 8-core processors, up to 64GB of memory, next-generation graphics with up to 8GB of VRAM and a new advanced thermal design, making it the most powerful MacBook Pro ever.
The new 16 inch has a larger form factor than the soon to be discontinued 15 inch, which it replaces in Apple's line up of pro notebooks. Wrappers has added new size MacBook Pro 16 inch case options in wool felt and linen, available to buy now. Prices are the same as for Wrappers MacBook Pro 15 inch sleeves.
Comparing the new notebook to the 15 inch, it is marginally larger on height, width and depth, which all adds up to Apple's biggest notebook form factor:
MacBook Pro 16 inch
Height: 1.62 cm (0.64 inches)
Width: 35.79 cm (14.09 inches)
Depth: 24.59 cm (9.68 inches)
MacBook Pro 15 inch
Height: 1.55 cm (0.61 inches)
Width: 34.93 cm (13.75 inches)
Depth: 24.07 cm (9.48 inches)
The new notebook is heavier at 4.3 pounds, compared to a previous 4.02 pounds for the 15 inch. Overall, Apple's latest and biggest form factor does not feel noticeably different, and it has a not dissimilar thinness and lightness for what it is - a 16 inch notebook designed for heavy duty workloads.
The 16 inch screen is noticeably larger. As well as the bigger form factor, Apple has slimmed down the bezels along the top and sides of the display, reducing them by 25 and 34 percent, respectively.
The 16-inch panel has 3,072 x 1,920 resolution, 500 nits of brightness and a pixel density of 226 ppi which delivers nearly 6 million pixels and an even more immersive front-of-screen experience. Each display is individually calibrated in the factory for accurate gamma, white point and primary colors.
Apple has replaced the flat butterfly pro keyboard with a new scissor mechanism keyboard with 1mm of travel on keys. A rubber dome under each keycap allows for a more accurate, natural keypress and caps are secured in place, so there is no wobble as can be experienced with the butterfly keyboard.
